Russia Health Insurance Coverage Pre-Existing Condition

Pre-Existing Condition Health Insurance in Russia

Pre-Existing medical condition refers to any illness or health related problem that existed, or of which the policyholder was aware, before the medical insurance policy was purchased. These conditions are typically excluded from a Russia medical insurance plan unless otherwise stated.

Heart disease, diabetes, asthma, cancer, high blood pressure as well as allergies are some conditions that are often pre-existing prior to the purchase of a Russian medical insurance policy.

Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Coverage

There are several ways that insurance companies use to manage pre-existing conditions. The three most common approaches used to deal with pre-existing conditions under individual and family plans are Premium Loading, Exclusion and Moratorium.

Premium Loading

The most straight forward, yet rarely used, approach is Premium Loading. In order for your pre-exisitng condition to be covered the yearly premium for you health insurance policy will be significantly increased. This approach is only used in tackling specific medical conditions and is only offered in some cases.

Exclusion

A more common way of dealing with pre-existing condition under the health insurance plan or policy is Exclusion, in this case the pre-exisitng condition will simply be excluded from you health insurance plan coverage. It is also important to mention that any condition that arises due to your pre-existing condition will normally also not be covered. Any medical problem or condition that has no relation to the pre-exisitng condition will be covered up to the regular policy limits by your Russia health insurance plan.

Moratorium

In a number of cases the insurance company may offer a Moratorium in dealing with pre-exisitng conditions; this is by far the most prevalent way in which a Russian insurance company will choose to manage pre-existing medical conditions.

A Moratorium in this instance simply refers to a waiting period after which coverage benefits may apply to patient's pre-existing condition. Typically applied for 24 months from the start of the plan, in the event that there are no symptoms of the condition, no treatment is required for the condition, and no medication is received for the condition, then the condition may be reconsidered for coverage upon renewal of the policy.

While the above points are the ways in which in pre-existing medical conditions will normally be handled by individual and family Russian health insurance, there exists another option for ensuring coverage of a medical condition which has developed prior to the purchase of a private medical insurance policy:

Medical History Disregarded

Typically only available to groups with 20 or more members, a Medical History Disregarded (MHD) benefit offers the most promising option for ensuring coverage for a pre-existing medical condition under a Russia medical insurance policy. Under an MHD benefit, members of the group can receive policy protection for pre-existing medical conditions which would have been otherwise excluded from the policy, such as Diabetes or Asthma.
